What in the world did people who work in an office do before the Internet? I mean, did they really spend those 8 or 9 hour days actually working? This is a horrible thing to admit, but I think I would go nuts if I didn't have the option of www'ing non-work-related things during my 7:30-5:30 days. HOWEVER, there are just some days when you can only read people.com and perezhilton.com and foxnews.com SOOO many times before your eyes cross and you suddenly know the life stories of Paris Hilton, Nichole Ritchie, and a whole host of other people you'd never be friends with in real life because they're so weird. And then there's facebook. Talk about stalker potential. You put the most grounded person in front of facebook for an hour and suddenly they are off and running (figuratively), looking up people they haven't seen in forever and searching people they never liked to see if their lives have turned out to be horrible disasters. Troubling, yes. But what else would you do at work if you're not seeing who's updated last and whose status has changed?
