The Making of a Budoir

I read something or saw something that talked about how you were supposed to make your bedroom the haven of your home, the place that you go whenever you need to chill out and you were supposed to make it inviting and blah blah blah. So I tried it. I waited until this great duvet set went on sale and spent several hundred dollars (that I'm still paying off on my Macy's card) on this beautiful set. That lasted for all of 6 months before Jake decided to take a bite out of the hand embroidered flowers. Evidently they looked pretty real. So it's been awhile since we had a welcoming bedroom - usually we just refer to it as "where the dogs sleep." But since Lucy came into the picture, we kicked both of them out of the actual bed (yes, they were sleeping with us), and I decided to refresh our bedroom. After many hours of hunting online and in the stores, I finally found the perfect sage green, not too girly, definitely not masculine fabulous 400 threadcount duvet set and it was....dum dum dum...ON SALE! More than half off on sale! Exciting, since I never find anything I really love on sale (except for the previous duvet cover, may it rest in pieces). Doubly exciting - the fact that our gift cards covered all but $.82 of it. Love it!
It all came in yesterday and after making two separate trips to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to get the bed skirt (tailored) and the curtain panels (crushed voile), I was ready for Chad to do the dirty work and hang the curtains. Did anybody else know that you need TWO curtain panels for windows? And that they are ridiculously priced and don't come in sets? Well, that was a shock to me, but evidently not to my smart husband who caught the lack of curtains by saying, "Don't we need two of these for this window?" Of course my feelings were hurt and I shot back a firm, "No!" But upon closer inspection, it did look a little silly with just the one forlorn curtain panel. I hate it when he's right, especially about home decor. That's supposed to be my department.
Anyway, we have one window completed, the bed skirt, duvet, and the European pillows are sitting pretty, and we have new, fresh sheets. So our bedroom is ALMOST done. We have two more panels to purchase and hang, my jewelry box which my mom is holding hostage, and we need some stuff to hang on the walls - don't worry, Hobby Lobby here I come!
And I'll post pictures of the new sleeping digs when I get finished...hopefully you will feel as refreshed looking at them as I'm supposed to feel when I'm in the actual room!
