Last night was a ground breaking night in the Butler household. Last night, I broke one of my cardinal rules (I really don't even know what that means, but it sounds good) and purchased HOME HAIR DYE. I had promised myself long ago, you know, when I was single, didn't have a mortgage or any debt to speak of, that I would NEVER, EVER let anyone touch my hair's glorious color except for my wonderful hair stylist, Terry. Well, yesterday, I was in the bathroom at work and it's horrid flourescent lighting picked out the SEVERAL gray strands that had nested in my locks. Ya'll, this had happened before. And when it did and I couldn't seem to pluck the suckers out myself, I ran to Frack's desk and made her do it. And then swear never to tell anyone that she had just plucked a gray hair out of my head.
Anywho, after trying to get those stupid hairs out and essentially creating a bald spot at my hair line, I came back to my desk and looked at my bank account to see if there was any way that we could afford for me to pay Terry a visit for her to help my hair. Um...yeah. No extra $100 available for a cut 'n color with Terry. So instead, I googled something that I had laughed at my mom about for years...the best brand of home hair dye. Oh dear God.
I went to my local Walgreens after work and after several minutes of deliberation of deciding whether to show up to work with blonde streaks in the morning, I purchased a box of L'Oreal's Feria in a shade that was pretty close to my natural color. Because I'm worth it. I hurried home with said box and immediately went into the bathroom to try and figure out how to use it. Side note: I really hate reading directions. But knowing that my hair was on the line, I read line by line and mixed up the stuff and everything. Then came the actual application. Which, is IMPOSSIBLE to do by yourself. Luckily, my husband came in just at that moment. My own personal hair stylist!
Long story short, Chad did apply the color to my hair, we let it sit and then I rinsed and conditioned. And dried. And looked in the mirror. There really wasn't that big of a difference. I called my mom (who laughed at me) and she told me that if I couldn't tell a big difference then we had done a good job - because, ya'll, it was definitely a team effort. No other man would have ever spent those long minutes applying that nasty smelling stuff to my hair!
I have offically graduated to the home dyer's association. I just hope my hair doesn't fall out because this "do it yourself" thing may get addicting. :)

I can't believe you just told that I pulled gray hair out of your head! I thought this "please don't tell" went both ways. :)
