Yesterday was a really trying day at work. My company, while sheltered because of the business we're in, is still not immune to the woes of the current U.S. economy and that became evident yesterday when one of the Big Guns called an "All Hands On Deck Meeting." Yes, we are very military oriented. It's what we do.
I have never, in my 25 years, experienced anything but bountiful growth and the more more more mentality that my generation is so famous for. Yesterday's meeting shook me to my core. Our company had laid off people, here, in our building. People that I saw daily, that were just at the company Christmas party with me, that I spoke to on a regular basis while we were getting coffee. Gone, just like that. It scared me, just like it scared everyone else in the room. Needless to say, it put quite the damper on the rest of the afternoon.
Luckily, the entire day wasn't doom and gloom because after work was our first 2009 Girls Night Out. I think every single one of us needed it. Frick 'n Frack were in rare form and we giggled like the teenagers we are at heart over the silliest things. Be sure to watch out for their upcoming blog...copy cats. :) I've said it before and I will continue to say it - I am so blessed and thankful for my wonderful work friends. Even during recessions they're there with a listening ear and a sarcastic comment. Gotta love 'em.
