I have had a lot of things to write about over the past couple of days. Actually, that's not true. I just really love to write so I try to make mundane things interesting. This, however, is not a mundane post.
I hate American Idol. I know, I know, I will be tracked down and beaten with sticks for saying that. But honestly, I never really got into it except for the season when Carrie Underwood won (and I'm still a Carrie Underwood fan to this day). I understand its appeal, but I would much rather spend my time watching Operation Repo if I'm going to watch TV at all. I have such great taste in television.
I also am not a fan of Britain's Got Talent or whatever that OTHER show Simon is on is called. I like the judges better (Randy and Paula annoy the poo out of me with his "dawg-ing" and her constant spacey, boozed up stare) and I love the accents. Not that I have ever really watched a whole episode. Anywho, remember Paul Potts, the unattractive guy who sang opera on Britain's Got Talent? Remember him? He was completely unassuming, completely humble, and lacked a great deal of self-confidence. But when he opened his mouth, the room fell silent because you knew that his voice was not of this world. Hubby was enthralled with Paul Potts (Chad like opera, by the way) as was I. You just don't find voices like his every day.
The same can be said of the newest sensation on Britain's Got Talent. I saw the video on YouTube today. She is not the best looking person, a bit homely with frizzy hair and a large amount of browage going on. Girlfriend needs a wax, that can be said. She walked out on stage and was completely comfortable in her own skin, even though the crowd and the judges (especially Simon) looked at her as if she were this insignificant waste of time. And then she sang. And shut up every single person because their jaws dropped to the floor. A voice like Susan Boyle's is one in a million. And her voice has nothing to do with her outfit, her hair, or her eyebrows. You can fix all of that outside stuff. But her voice and her self-confidence is part of the inner beauty - the part you can't fix with a makeover.
I am excited to learn more about this new artist - and I'm not really big on the whole music scene thing. I wonder if her choice in song was more than just chance. I wonder if it summed up her life up until the moment when an auditorium of strangers gave her a standing ovation. I wish her the very best of luck.
