These Are My Confessions...

I know you have one. A dirty little secret that rears its ugly head when no one is looking. I'm going to share mine with you today. And no, it's not cart ditching. Cart ditching is a way of life and a budget keeper - not a dirty little secret.

My dirty little secret came up today at lunch. I stopped by one of my favorite little restaurants, Two Chefs, for my favorite lunch ever - dried cranberry and grilled chicken salad. It is so good and would be much cheaper if I just made it at home, but I don't because I am in love with the dressing that comes with it. And also the little roll that you get, too. Anyway, Two Chefs is a, shall we say, more upscale little lunch place, usually full of snazzily dressed business professionals and mamas coming from one of the many various neighborhood pools. It's the kind of place where thin is in and, even though they have a dessert counter with a tiramasu that I want to stick my entire face in, nobody dares eat dessert there.

Today, there was a large plate of cut up brownies, pastries, and various other things that fall into the "you should not eat me because I cause cellulite" category. My dirty little secret come to life...free food samples. Ya'll should have seen me. Nobody else would go near the plate of goodness, but there I was, nonchalantly popping brownie pieces in my mouth when I thought no one was looking, just a working girl waiting on her salad.

I blame my love of free food samples on my grandmother. She had a Sam's membership card, back when Sam's wasn't cool, and I would go there with her. I hated going to Sam's. The hugeness of it freaked me out and I couldn't figure out why people needed 15 lbs of Cheerio's in their pantry. The saving grace at Sam's was the grocery department...and the free samples. There were tons of them...people giving out free food! I loved it. And that has been brought over into my adult years...I can not pass up a free sample of food. And that, my dear friends, is today's confession.

What's yours?

Haha - That's awesome, Kelley! I can't resist free food samples either, but I'm trying harder these days because of my diet. My confession is that I patrol the cosmetics department at Dillard's or Belk - looking for a free mini facial or makeover! The trick is finding a saleswoman who looks bored out of her mind, then feigning slight interest in their products! Oh dear, that sounds terrible. I usually end up buying something afterwards, depending on how much time/effort the lady spent working with me. Darn conscience =)
