Looking Ahead

I noticed something on Sunday...the first fall leaves are starting to dwindle down in our yard. It seems like they are a little bit premature, especially with the heat of summer still beating down, but it's true...Labor Day is just a couple of weeks away and it will again be time to put up white capris and linen shorts and go through what I like to call purgatory...that weird time between summer and fall when wool sweaters start showing up at Dillards even though it's still 95 degrees in Greenville. I've always had a really hard time with clothing during this time of year. On one hand, it's exciting because I'm always up for a seasonal change in clothing choices, but it's also ludicrous to just jump on in because the thought of wearing anything more than a sleeveless top in our semi-tropical climate could possibly cause heat stroke and the first frost that's still at least 3 months away.

So where do you go after Labor Day but before Halloween? Well, I am so glad you asked because...I have been researching this (not really, but you know) and have come up with some fun, affordable ideas for the first part of fall. And also, I just want to let you know that I feel like I can totally give you fashion advice because my 16 year old cousin asked me for fashion advice last week. Obviously I'm still hip.

1. First on the list is a tunic top. I have noticed that these shirts have been displayed a lot in the past few weeks and when Frick came by my cubicle today looking adorable in one, I felt the need to put them on here. This is a good basic that can be worn both to work or on the weekends with some cute jeans. This is the same silhouette, but in a definite weekend style.

2. I know that most places are still in the middle of a giant heat wave. Which is why I love this top and this top. They are definitely work appropriate, but can be dressed down with jeans and heels or cute flats, too.

3. This dress would definitely make me happy, as would this one. The shape is great for most body sizes because it is A-line, it is work appropriate, and the darker color assures everyone that you're getting ready for your fall palette.

4. I also found this site through another blog and I fell in love with a lot of their pieces. I love this simple dress - it is a classic and will never go out of style. Pairing it with some leopard print flats like these and you have a Jackie O meets Mary Tyler Moore thing going on.

5. And finally, if you want a more subdued bathing suit as the seasons change, I would recommend this cute mix and match. I saw it in person yesterday and LOVED it.

6. Yes, I know, I didn't post any cute jeans...truth be told, I just don't know anymore. So if any of you have a favorite brand that minimizes big hips, let me know! I would love to know how all of you transition your wardrobe during this time!

I, too, get all confused during this "in between" weather. I hate those months where it is almost cold enough for a turtleneck in the mornings, but warm enough for a tank top and shorts by 2PM! I love the idea of the tunics though. Plus, they look good on just about anyone.

Oh, and for awesome jeans...check out Beija Flor. www.ilovethesejeans.com (AND they're in G-vegas!)
